January 25, 2023: Institute associate Luka Filipović defended his doctoral dissertation

On January 25, 2023, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, the doctoral dissertation on “Eurocommunism and Yugoslavia 1968‒1980” was defended by Luka Filipović, an associate of the Institute.

January 19, 2023: The “Andrej Mitrović” award was given to Radosav Tucović, an associate of the Institute

The “Andrej Mitrović” award (Andrej-Mitrović-Preis) of the Michael Žikić Foundation (Michael-Zikic-Stiftung) is awarded every other year for excellent doctoral dissertations, which in the field of social sciences and humanities advance knowledge about Germany’s relations with Serbia or Yugoslavia.

December 12-17, 2022: Associate of the Institute Rade Ristanović was on research in Regensburg

As part of the bilateral project of the Institute for Contemporary History with the Leibniz Institute for Eastern and Southeastern European Studies, research associate Dr. Rade Ristanović was on a research stay in Regensburg.

The Management Board of the Institute for Contemporary History announced a public selection procedure for the director of the Institute for a mandate period of four years.

In the premises of the National Museum Aranđelovac, on December 22, 2022, the promotion of the latest editions of the Institute was held.

December 21, 2022: Twelfth lecture held within the “Ideas” project

Dr. Danilo Šarenac, senior research associate of the Institute for Contemporary History, held a lecture “Banditism, outlawry and brigandage in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia”

December 14, 2022: Eleventh lecture held within the “Ideas” project

Prof. Dr. Biljana Šimunović-Bešlin, full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, gave a lecture “Something is happening (in) digital history. Innovations in digital hermeneutics”.

December 11, 2022: Call for submissions for the “Ljubomir Ljuba Petrović” award

In 2016, the Institute of Contemporary History established the “Ljubomir Ljuba Petrović” award, which is awarded in memory of a colleague who passed away prematurely to a student for the best master’s thesis in the field of general contemporary history and the history of Yugoslavia, defended in 2022.

December 7, 2022: Tenth lecture held within the “Ideas” project

Dr. Dragomir Bondžić, senior research fellow of the Institute for Contemporary History, held a lecture “Russian white emigrant teachers of Belgrade University: arrival, adaptation, identity” at the Institute for Contemporary History on December 7, 2022.

December 5, 2022: The institute was visited by the students of “Sveti Sava” high school

On December 5, 2022, the students of the “Sveti Sava” high school, together with history professor Marija Kralj, visited the Institute for Contemporary History

Since its foundation, ISI has been dedicated to scientific knowledge and improving the understanding of the recent past through scientific research into the political, social, economic and cultural history of Serbian and Yugoslav society in the Yugoslav, Balkan, European and world context.
