About Institute

Since its establishment, the Institute of Contemporary History has been dedicated to scientific knowledge and to improving the understanding of the recent past through scientific research into the political, social, economic and cultural history of Serbian and Yugoslav society in the Yugoslav, Balkan, European and global contexts.

The Institute of Contemporary History carries out its activities in accordance with its program through institutional funding, projects and scientific cooperation with institutions and individuals in the country and the world engaged in similar activities. It presents the results of its work through the ENAUKA portal, publishing activities, organizing scientific and professional meetings, seminars and educational activities, as well as publishing the journal History of the 20th Century. The total scientific knowledge created by the work of a large number of leading historians in the country is available to the scientific and wider public at all times. As scientists, we strive to push the boundaries of knowledge, and as historians, to serve the truth.

The Institute has 33 employees, 31 in the scientific sector, 2 in the administration. The scientific sector consists of researchers, among whom 30 are doctors of science.

Located at 11 Nikole Pašića Square, on the fourth floor of the old Privileged Agrarian Bank building, the Institute provides access to a rich library and documentation center.

The INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY HISTORY is a leading national institution in the field of contemporary history and historiography in the Balkans, formed as an institution that gathers scientific workers, research experts for certain segments of the history of Serbia and Yugoslavia, but also for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and research results.

Objectives

The INSTITUTE OF MODERN HISTORY strives to become a leader in this part of Europe by setting high scientific standards. The strengthening of the scientific influence in Serbian society is achieved by the development of the professional potential of its associates, who will have access to world-class professional knowledge through the intensification of international cooperation.

Activities

The INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY HISTORY implements a program of scientific research through institutional funding, as well as a number of national, bilateral and international projects. In addition to projects, ISI has a scientific journal, a repository and a portal ENAUKE, which enable adequate visibility of the scientific results of its researchers.
