Institute for Contemporary History

is a research institution dedicated to furthering the understanding of the recent past, facilitating the study of political, social, economic and cultural history in the context of Serbian, Yugoslav, Balkan, European, and global society.

Founded over half a century ago, the Institute builds on those traditions. Scholarly activity in the Institute is conducted in accordance with our program, through research projects and the development of scholarly cooperation. Our results are presented through our publishing activity, the organization of international, regional and local scholarly symposia, as well as the publication of our journal "Istorija 20.veka" (History of the 20th Century).

Located in downtown Belgrade, at 11 Nikola Pašić Square, (Trg Nikole Pašića 11), the Institute hosts a rich library, a documentation and digital center, thus fostering professional access to our work and promoting public interest in the recent past.

On October 29, 2021, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, the doctoral dissertation on the topic "Yugoslav Defense Policy 1945-1958: Ideas and Practice" was defended by Marko Miletić, an associate of the Institute.

The researcher of the Institute, Danilo Šarenac, as a guest of the French organization Fondation maison des sciences de l'homme, is staying in Paris for six weeks.

During October 12 and 13, two promotions of the monograph "Stara Raška pod italijanskom okupacijom 1941‒1943", by the research associate of the Institute, Dr. Milutin Živković, were held.

The promotion of the book "Žena u okupiranoj Srbiji 1941‒1944" by the associate of the Institute of Contemporary History, Dr. Ljubinka Škodrić, was held in the Ceremonial Hall of the City Administration of the City of Kraljevo on Monday, October 11, 2021.

September 24, 2021: An exhibition by Bojan Dimitrijević, an associate of the Institute, was opened in the hall of the National Assembly

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Agreement on Military Assistance between the USA and Yugoslavia, an exhibition of photographs about the time when the then armed forces were equipped with American planes, tanks, cannons, vehicles and other weapons was opened on September 24 in the hall of the Serbian National Assembly.

Organized by the Institute of Contemporary History and the University of Casimir the Great (Bydgoszcz, Poland), the eighth conference on Yugoslav-Polish relations in the 20th century was held in Belgrade on September 16 and 17.

September 3, 2021: Dr. Danijel Kežić held a lecture at the institute

Within the realization of the program of bilateral scientific cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Federal Republic of Germany, the Institute was visited by the head of the German project team, Dr. Danijel Kežić, who also gave a lecture.

September 2, 2021: Promotion of the book “Stara Raška under Italian occupation 1941‒1943” at the National Library in Kraljevo

The two-volume monograph "Stara Raška under Italian occupation 1941-1943" by Dr. Milutin Živković, a research associate at the Institute, was presented in the library in Kraljevo. In addition to the author, reviewers Dr. Kosta Nikolić and Dr. Bojan Dimitrijević also spoke about the book.
