Ratomir Milikić, PRILOZI ZA PROUČAVANJE SRPSKO-POLJSKIH ODNOSA U DRUGOM SVETSKOM RATU KROZ MEMOARSKU GRAĐU NA SRPSKOM JEZIKU
DOI: 10.29362/2022.2619.mil.193-214
Ratomir Milikić, CONTRIBUTIONS TO RESEARCH INTO SERBIAN-POLISH RELATIONS DURING THE WORLD WAR II ILLUSTRATED BY SAMPLES OF SERBIAN ÉMIGRÉ PUBLISHING
The paper is predominantly based on analysis of memoirs and diaries in Serbian language as written sources for an exploration of the cooperation between Serbia and Poland during the World War II. The main aim of this paper is not to reconstruct each and every example of that cooperation, but to present new contributions to the study of their bilateral relations during that difficult period for both Poland and Serbia/Yugoslavia when their territories were occupied and their governments forced to go into exile. Author’s intention was to demonstrate similarities and proximities of historical destinies of the two countries. Therefore, the paper contains an overview of several historical issues that occupy an important place in the diaries of Yugoslav diplomat and chief of cabinet to several Yugoslav prime ministers at that time, Kosta St. Pavlović, as well as in the scholarly paper “Yugoslav Government and Drazha Mihailovich” written by professor, diplomat and former minister Radoje L. Knežević, that had been published in Serbian émigré opinion magazine “Poruka” during 1953 and 1954. Along these same lines, the paper provides an overview of a book devoted to Polish captain Józef Maciąg. a.k.a Michał Jakubowski Łewandowski, who as a member of a British military mission and General Sikorski’s envoy stayed in the territory of Serbia after 1943. The book Sa kapetanom Našom u Beogradu (With Captain Nash in Belgrade) is a private émigré edition by Marko Milunović Piper. The author also analyses materials from the Archives of Yugoslavia in Belgrade, along with the book “Miss-Fire”, an autobiographical account by Jasper Rootham of his wartime experiences in Yugoslavia. Rootham was an intelligence officer during the war and his book was published in 1946. Serbian translation was published in 2004 under the title Pucanj u prazno.
