DOI 10.29362/2589.mil.15-32
The April War of 1941 is one of the turning points in the history of Yugoslavia. It was at once the end and the beginning. It marked the end of the era that had begun with the birth of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes / Yugoslavia, but it possessed “a certain incompleteness” which led to a new process resulting in the ideological civil and religious war waged on the territory of Yugoslavia from 1941 to 1945. With reference to the archival materials, memoirist and historiographic literature, the paper tries to lay out in broad strokes the international military and strategic position of Yugoslavia on the eve of World War II, its preparations for war, war plans, and the very development of the operations on the Yugoslav battlefield.
