Nikica Barić, TRAFFIC COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN INDEPENDENT STATE OF CROATIA AND SERBIA DURING WORLD WAR II

The paper discusses the communications between the Independent State of Croatia (ISC) and Serbia during World War II. ISC was proclaimed during the Axis invasion of Kingdom of Yugoslavia, while Germany occupied Serbia. New Ustasha regime in Croatia initiated state terror against its own ethnic Serb population. A certain part of Serbs living in ISC was forcefully resettled to Serbia, and many ethnic Serbs also fled from ISC to Serbia, fearing the ISC state terror. Simultaneously representatives of ISC and Serbia, along with the representatives of the German army, held numerous conferences whose topic was the organization of railway and other communications between ISC and Serbia. The paper shows how railway and other communications were established and maintained. Also, ISC and German representatives agreed on the daily passage of persons between Belgrade and Eastern Syrmia, the latter being part of ISC territory, in order to facilitate the needs of live on the both side of the border.
